# Scan to Email Stopped Working? How to Fix Copier and Scanner Email

Many scan-to-email failures happen because Microsoft 365 and Google have been switching off the old password-only sign-in that scanners used. Update the scanner to use modern sign-in, use an approved SMTP relay, or switch to scanning into a cloud folder.

## Try this first

- Print or check the scanner’s error message or log
- Check for a firmware update with modern sign-in support
- Ask your Microsoft 365 or Google admin how outgoing mail from devices is allowed
- Set up an SMTP relay or another approved sending method
