# Moving Off Wix or Squarespace Without Losing Your Google Rankings

Outgrown Wix or Squarespace? Here is how to move to a faster, more flexible website without losing your Google rankings, reviews, email or customers.

By the Wisconsin Tech Shop team · Updated October 31, 2026

**Short answer:** Keep your domain, map every old page to its new address with permanent (301) redirects, carry over titles, content and structured data, and move DNS without breaking email. Done right, rankings hold steady and often improve on a faster site.

## Why businesses move

- Slow pages and limited control over SEO.
- Features you need, like booking, payments, portals or AI, that the builder can’t do well.
- Rising fees for apps and add-ons.

## The migration checklist

- **Crawl the old site:** list every URL, title, description and image.
- **Plan URLs:** keep the same addresses where you can and redirect the rest with 301s.
- **Rebuild the content:** keep what ranks and improve what doesn’t.
- **Move DNS carefully,** without breaking email records (MX, SPF and DKIM).
- **Launch and verify:** submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and fix any 404s.
- **Monitor** rankings and traffic for a few weeks.

## Common mistakes

- Launching without redirects, which throws away years of rankings.
- Changing the domain and the design at the same time without a plan.
- Breaking email when moving DNS.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will I lose my Google reviews?

No. Reviews live on your Google Business Profile, not your website. Just update the website link on the profile.

### Can I keep my domain?

Yes. Your domain can point to the new website, and it can move to a different registrar if you want.
