Stripe Account Under Review or Payouts Paused? How to Respond
Stripe, Square or PayPal paused your payouts or asked for more information? Here is why processors review accounts, what to send them and how to keep it from happening again.
Short answer: Answer the processor’s request quickly and completely, with exactly the documents they ask for, and fix the usual triggers: missing business details, an unclear website, a weak refund policy or a spike in disputes. Don’t open a second account to get around a review.
Why accounts get reviewed
- A sudden jump in sales or average order size.
- High refunds or chargebacks.
- Missing or mismatched business information.
- A website that doesn’t clearly show what you sell, your prices, policies and contact details.
- Products or services the processor considers higher risk.
What to send
- Business registration and ID documents they request.
- Invoices from suppliers and proof of fulfillment, like tracking numbers.
- A clear explanation of your business model and the sales spike.
- Your refund and cancellation policies.
Fix the triggers
- Show your business name, address, phone and email on the website.
- Publish clear refund, shipping and cancellation policies.
- Describe products and delivery times plainly.
- Respond to disputes quickly with evidence.
- Turn on fraud screening.

Frequently asked questions
How long do payment reviews take?
Often a few days to a couple of weeks after you send everything requested.
Should I switch processors?
Sometimes a backup processor is wise, but fix the cause first; the same issues usually follow you to the next processor.
