ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS on Your Website? How to Fix a Redirect Loop

“Redirected you too many times” means two settings keep bouncing visitors back and forth, usually between HTTP and HTTPS or between www and non-www. The most common cause is Cloudflare’s SSL mode set to Flexible while the server also forces HTTPS; making your SSL and redirect settings agree ends the loop.

Try this first

  1. Open the site in a private window to rule out your own cookies
  2. If you use Cloudflare, set SSL/TLS to Full (strict) once the server has a valid certificate
  3. Check that the WordPress Address and Site Address use the same https and www form
  4. Turn off redirect and SSL plugins one at a time
  5. Look for duplicate redirect rules in .htaccess or your host’s settings
  6. Clear the site and Cloudflare caches, then test again

When it’s more than a quick fix

If you can’t reach the admin area, or changing settings makes things worse, fix it from the hosting and DNS side instead of guessing.

How we fix it remotely

Questions

Why does the loop only happen to some visitors?

Cached redirects and cookies differ by browser, so some visitors hit it before others.

Is Flexible SSL in Cloudflare bad?

It leaves the connection to your server unencrypted and often causes redirect loops. Full (strict) with a valid certificate is the better setting.
