Lost an Unsaved Word or Excel File? Where to Find It

Reopen Word or Excel and look for the Document Recovery pane, then check File › Info › Manage Document › Recover Unsaved Documents. Files saved to OneDrive also keep a version history you can roll back.

Reopen the app and check the Document Recovery pane
Go to File › Info › Manage Document › Recover Unsaved Documents
Look in the AutoRecover folder shown in the app’s Save options
Check the file’s version history in OneDrive
Search the computer for part of the file name
Turn on AutoSave by saving to OneDrive

If the file was overwritten and isn’t on OneDrive, previous versions or backups are the only way back.
